A Turkey's Lament

Twas the night of thanksgiving when into the house.
Came a turkey, a goose, a gander and grouse.
They mischievously walked around the house so gay.
It seemed as though they were trying to say.
“Hey, you mister with your pot belly smile!
Why do you have bones lying there in a pile?
Our friend heres misgiving's a serious one.
And is in a dilemma that can't be undone.
He says, now on this day of thanksgiving.
None of his friends return to the living.”
Now, this tale requires an explanation.
On the fate of our friend in this friendly nation.
“I'm sorry you birds but, your friend is quite right.
We eat them this day to celebrate.
The founding of love on these great shores!
You'll find your friend's friends in all the stores.”
“I'm sorry my friend to have doubted your word.
It seems we birds have a lot to learn.
We must now depart to the timbers and woods.
And hope they don't get us for Christmas food.
Why is our fate such a dirty deed?
